The Wentworth Kitchen
The Brief
At the home of Middleton the Wentworth barn was conceived as a kitchen of richness and refinement, bringing together exceptional materials, beautifully considered appliances and traditional cabinetmaking, while retaining an important sense of restraint.
The intention was not to create something overtly opulent, but a room where quality is evident in every detail. Dark stained oak, Carrara marble, burnished brass and the La Cornue range bring depth and character, balanced by strong proportions and a disciplined approach to the cabinetry.
Although relatively compact, the room feels complete and purposeful, demonstrating that a kitchen can feel generous and sophisticated without anything being unnecessary or overindulgent.
Elements
The sink elevation is crafted in dark stained oak, with substantial square posts framing the cabinetry and giving the composition a reassuring sense of solidity and permanence. The Wentworth door and drawer fronts feature a fine V-detail, complemented by classic brass hardware, longer pulls giving purpose to the larger drawers, with paired knobs bringing a more delicate rhythm to those below.
Every part of the cabinetry has been considered for use as well as appearance. To the left of the sink, a household drawer sits above an integrated pull-out dishwasher, while the refrigerator is discreetly integrated to the right.
The cooker elevation introduces our more decorative Wentworth cabinetry, with its refined door bead and traditional planked cabinet sides. Deep drawers provide generous storage for pans and crockery, with a flush upper panel concealing elegant swan-neck internal drawers.
The tall cabinetry incorporates a pantry cupboard with an oak spice rack alongside a dedicated drinks cupboard. Here, a Carrara marble splashback and profiled stone shelves turn a practical piece of cabinetry into something rather special.
Throughout, the Carrara marble is formed with a substantial 50mm built-up edge, combining half and full bullnose profiles, a detail developed specifically for our Wentworth style.
