The Water House
The Brief
Our clients created this stunning contemporary new build having moved from their previous Grade II listed country house. The brief was to create contemporary handmade cabinetry with a traditional softness that wouldn’t date as some modern kitchens can. A natural palette of materials and colours was key to sit within the stunning setting.
Elements
Nestled in the Sussex countryside this stunning contemporary home was created to bring the outside in. The open plan kitchen, living and dining area looks over the still waters of the pool and stunning garden beyond. The cabinetry is pure shaker with minimal detailing; a modern take on a British handmade kitchen. The mulberry tones of the kitchen were chosen to compliment the beautiful mature trees outside.
The oversized island is a great space to cook and prep and adds to the sociable nature of this space. With so much glazing and everything at low level the island is key piece of the design and had to be of suitable scale to sit within the large open plan area. At nearly 4 metres long the impressive island features a large expanse of counter top with an end grain chopping block integrated.
The Aga is an inviting addition to this entertaining space and low-level cabinetry throughout allows the architecture to shine. The cooking area offer generous areas to either side of the Aga with cutlery over crockery store to one side and utensil over pan store to the other side. The main fridge and food storage is within a concealed pantry and there is an under counter integrated fridge to support the kitchen in the island.
